I went on "vacation" this past weekend to New Braunfels. My in-laws have an annual family gathering there along the river. However, I don't really consider it a vacation since I'm really not much of a river-kind of guy. I'm much more of a city boy.
Of course, I brought along my laptop to get some work done. Everyone else there thought I was crazy... it's "vacation!" They apparently don't enjoy what they do. You know, there's nothing in the definition of "work" that says it has to be something painful or undesireable.
I really do enjoy what I do. Sure... there are aspects of the job that aren't my favorite, but it's part of the package. Lots of people consider riding roller coasters fun and are willing to deal with waiting in line to do it.
The real joy of my work is the web strategy consulting. Ironically, this is the one thing I don't charge my customers to do! It's very exciting and rewarding to help a business owner plan for success... working through the ins and outs of what it will take to make the website create real value.
I think I've offically converted from computer geek to business geek. I wonder if that makes me technically bi-lingual...
